Santa Baby
We had a wonderful Christmas together. We started things off with the annual Maughan-Wright Christmas Eve party at the Historic Wellsville Tabernacle. We were missing a lot of people this year, but we carried on and had a good time without them (although they were missed of course). We had a lovely performance of the nativity with a great rendition of the christmas story (by Michelle's husband Scott) since we didn't have a bible.
Christmas morning revealed that Santa did come and brought gifts for everyone. Even the dogs all got a treat. Grandma Pauline spent Christmas Eve and Christmas morning with us. I'm glad she came and didn't stay home alone. Craig, Susan and The Maynards joined us for an awesome breakfast prepared by Janalee and Marijka. Brooklyn got the Hungry Hungry Hippo game and we had a few rounds of that for old times sake. I remember playing that game as a kid. Some things don't change and I didn't win this time either.
We all got a nap in before we headed to Newton for Christmas dinner. When we pulled up at the Petersen's it looked like a winter wonderland with Craig's beautiful light display and the huge snowflakes coming down. In the 5 hours we were there almost a foot of snow came down. We discussed spending the night but Marlee needed to be home to go to work at 11:00, so Brian and Brett shoveled us a path to the truck and all 7 of us piled in for the trip home. We made the wise decision to leave the minivan there for the night. Janalee suggested we say a prayer as we got on the road (what we could see of the road that is). As Mom was saying it we missed being hit by just inches by a truck sliding towards us from the other direction. Janalee's scream in the middle of the prayer added a nice touch. It was pretty treacherous and we felt blessed to make it home without incident. It wasn't snowing at all when we had left Wellsville and there was 10 inches in the driveway when we got home. As I looked around at us all piled into the truck I thought how incredibly blessed we are to have us all here this Christmas. It was one more memory to add to the many we've made as a family this past year.
Today we got to spend some time with Pat, Tara, Ashleigh, Guimo and Willa. Susan, Natalie, Gracie and Garrett came to play too. Craig, Sean, Emily, Brooklyn and Marijka are all sick so they couldn't participate. We are really hoping it skips the rest of us. It was fun to see the kids and how fast they are growing up. Guimo started walking and Willa started crawling for Christmas. It's fun to see how fast they can move, but it takes all of us to keep them out of trouble. Gracie fell face first into the side of the ottoman and we sent her home to her mother with a huge bump and bruise in the middle of her forehead. Emily will probably never let us take her again.
We have had a wonderful Christmas and hope you have too.
