We have talked about our dear friend Karen a lot. She is really sick right now. She had pneumonia and missed a week of school. She went back for a week but by Friday was dragging herself around. She was here for Marijka's birthday on March 13th and looked terrible. She got sick again and ended up in the hospital. I went in to see her Friday and I was so worried, she looked so bad and barely got out, Hi Paula." Janalee and Susan were there later in the day with her mom when a different doctor they had called came in. Karen was having a hard time breathing, she couldn't get air and when she would get up to go to the bathroom, her oxygen would drop into the 40's. The doctor told them she had ARDS (Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome). He said that most of the people who get it don't survive and that she could die. He was going to put her on a ventilator and life flight her to Salt Lake. He listened to her lungs and decided to try putting her on a machine that is kind of like a CPAP machine that forces air into her lungs. She responded to it and has slowly started to improve. Janalee has stayed with Karen and her mom at the hospital night and day. Jan finally went home tonight to get some sleep. They are really strict letting visitors in. You have to wear a mask and sanitize and can only stay a few minutes. We are feeling encouraged tonight by her progress and pray that she continues to improve. We feel very grateful that she is still with us. We have been so afraid we were going to lose her. We love her so much. She is an important part of our lives. Please remember her in your prayers. We love you Karen and are praying for your complete recovery!

I am so glad that Karen is feeling better. What would we do without her? What a scary experience this was. She was very blessed.
